Lloyd Stegemann, M.D., F.A.S.M.B.S specializes in the treatment of obesity and subscribes to a health action plan that involves community leaders, businesses, schools, elected officials, faith based organizations, and healthcare professionals to get every individual to understand the effect that their weight has on their health.
As a healthcare professional he performs gastric banding, gastric sleeve, and gastric bypass surgical interventions. Having completed more than 1,000 bariatric cases and being designated a Surgical Center of Excellence Surgeon by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), his experience matches his proclivity for compassion and excellence.
During his surgical residency, he saw firsthand the devastating health and personal effects of obesity on patients and their families. He also witnessed the growing epidemic of obesity in his home state of Texas and decided that he, much like the physicians before him that led the battle against tobacco, would devote his practice to battling obesity.
Organizing and founding the Texas Association for Bariatric Surgery as part of the ASMBS, he now helps other surgeons across the country organize their own ASMBS chapters.
An active author and speaker lending his talents to Johnson and Johnson in helping launch the Realize Band, and assisting The Discovery Channel in explaining Bariatric Surgery, Dr. Stegemann’s counsel and expertise are highly sought after.
He serves on the Board of Directors for the Obesity Action Coalition, a national non-profit organization that works to educate the public about the disease of obesity, improve access to obesity treatments, and end obesity discrimination.
Stegemann received his doctorate of medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, and completed his surgical residency in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Stegemann recently returned to Corpus Christi, TX, a city he knows quite well having graduated from Carroll High School. He is very excited to be home and to work with Coastal Bend residents to restore their health and hope through weight loss surgery.
